When I was at school a famous modelling & beauty college come and spoke to us about makeup and skin care. They explained how to apply makeup and the importance of taking it off each night before bed. To this day I still practise what I learnt way back then.
I enjoy wearing makeup, it gives me more confidence and I feel prettier. I realised how good it made me feel when I went through Chemotherapy in 2010 and lost all my hair “makeup was my friend”.
As much as I love to wear makeup I do try to reduce the toxic load on my body and in the environment. Makeup & personal hygiene products contain a great many toxins. Studies show a woman is exposed to 126 chemicals a day from using these items.

Skin Deep Cosmetics Database web site shows how safe many cosmetics are. Most products I use will not be listed because it’s American based. But its a start. I use “Urban Decay” eyeshadow and “better than sex” mascara and they rate well.
At the end of the day!
To remove my makeup at the end of the day I place 1 drop of the D.I.Y. eye makeup remover on damp fingers and with a gentle circular motion cover the whole eyelid. With a damp cloth or face wipe (I use bamboo wipes). Wipe off all the eye makeup.
Then I clean the rest of my face with the Verage skincare collection This consists of
So what’s in it?
Lavender Essential Oil

This essential oil comes from the flowering tops of the lavender plant. For many years it has been appreciated for its sweet floral scent and healing benefits.
Because many of us now make our own natural skin care products, lavender essential oil is a must-have in our collection. It benefits the skin due to anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.
Because lavender is useful to fight the signs of ageing its an important inclusion in this eye makeup remover.
Frankincense Essential Oil

Steam distilled from the resin of the Boswellia tree. It has a deep warm but sweet scent.
Because of its chemical makeup, Frankincense has significant renewing properties giving it a wide variety of uses. It not only beautifies the skin but leaves it feeling soothed, rejuvenated and relaxed.
Known as the “King of Oils” Frankincense is useful as an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antidepressant to name a few. It blends well will all other oils.
Yarrow/Pom Essential Oil

This one-of-a-kind expertly crafted blend of Yarrow essential oil and cold-pressed Pomegranate seed oil, offers powerful benefits to both the skin and the body.
This blend will give the skin that “natural glow”. Containing proteins that protect and
Blue in appearance this oil has a herbaceous, fruity but spicy scent. It provides powerful antioxidant support.
Fractionated Coconut Oil

F.C.O. (fractionated coconut oil) is liquid coconut oil. Long chain fatty acids have been removed, by hydrolysis and steam distillation, that make it liquid at room temperature. This also extends its shelf life.
As a carrier oil fractionated coconut oil is perfect. The skin absorbs the oil and
Fractionated Coconut Oil is used to dilute strong essential oils before applying, to lessen skin sensitivity. Its a perfect choice in this natural skin care D.I.Y. product. If you do not have F.C.O. but do have Jojoba oil its a worthy substitute. Jojoba is good on dry and inflamed skin
Dropper Bottle

The dropper bottle used in the picture to the left was purchased from dōTERRA. Alternative you could reuse an empty lavender or frankincense bottle (the leftover contents would be an added bonus). Another option might be to use a roller bottle. To use it this way roll a small portion onto your finger and apply to the eyelid.
When making any sort or natural skin care products with essential oils use the highest quality you can find. I only ever use dōTERRA’s Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. For more information about dōTERRA check out my blog Why dōterra.
